Community Qualities: Kawempe Division is on of the 5 divisions that make up Kampala District in Uganda. The location of the division strategically makes it the major entry point of traffic from the North Western and North Eastern parts of Uganda to the city centre. The majority of people in the area are Muslim.
Primary Issues: Poverty, unemployment, drug abuse & theft. Muslem are the majority population, which is a challenge to Christian influence in the area.
Joshua Yiga Excels!
Joshua Yiga has been a sponsored child at Kawempe CDP since primary 7 (7th grade). This past year he sat his S.6 (Senior High School) Exit Exams and had one of the top grades in the entire country, scoring 25 points in physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics.
This is not the first time Joshua has excelled since he has been with us. Last year, he won the National Mathematics competition. As a result he is preparing for the International Mathematics Competition being held in July 2013 in Columbia.
Below is Joshua with his math competition trophy. We wish Joshua many more successes as he prepares for competition and as he joins University in the near future!
