My name is Derrick Basekuketta and I was born on 24th February 1993. I come from a family of 2 half brothers and 1 sister. When I was 11 years old, my parents separated and my father took my siblings away, leaving me to stay with my poor mother.
In 2004, my mother and I moved to Gaba to stay at my aunt’s home. These were hard times but by God’s grace, I managed to finish primary seven. Even then, I had little hope for secondary education.
Amazingly, God opened a door for me to be sponsored by Africa Renewal Ministries.
In 2007, I was born again during one of ARM’s holiday youth camps. Since then, God has been my father and my provider.
In my whole family, I am the first to complete high school. To my surprise, my final scores were so good that the government of Uganda has offered me a fully paid scholarship to do a 5 year law degree at Makerere University!
I am so thankful to ARM, who saw something in me and picked me from where I am. Without your help and support, I would not be the person that I am today.
